Xerox ColorQube 8870DN Color Solid ink printer
The Xerox ColorQube 8870DN color laser printer is Xerox's latest answer to anyone who complains about printers that follow the razor industry's model of giving away the razor to sell the blades. The Xerox 8870DN turns the business model on its head, asking you to lay out a lot of money for the printer in exchange for cheap ink. Print enough pages and the savings on ink will make the printer itself effectively free.
The claimed cost per page for the 8870DN is 1.9 cents per monochrome page and 3.5 cents per color page. Looking at just the color cost, that's a saving of at least 6.6 cents per color page compared with color laser printers. Based even on the minimum 6.6-cent savings per page, if you print just 1,100 color pages a month—about 250 per week—for three years, the savings in running costs will cover the entire initial cost of the printer. Even better, you'll save money on monochrome pages too. Most color laser printers claim a cost for monochrome printing of 2.2 to 4.5 cents per page, for a 0.3- to 2.6-cent-per-page savings. All this makes the 8870DN of particular interest to small to medium size offices and workgroups with relatively heavy-duty color printing needs.
